  Robert "Bob" Theodore  Yntema

Robert "Bob" Theodore Yntema died Monday evening October 2, 2017. He was born on January 16, 1926 in Dunmore, PA to Theodore and Minnie (Pabst) Yntema. He grew up in the Port Jervis area of New York. Bob attended Cornell University, graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, and got his masters in Aeronautical Engineering from Rennselaer (RPI). He served as gunnery officer, Ensign, in the US Navy during WWII. After the Navy, he took a job as an Aeronautical Engineer at NACA in Newport News, Va. There he met the love of his life, Lucy May Taylor, who worked as a computer! [As in the film Hidden Figures.] He proposed on Halloween and they married New Year's Day, January 1, 1949. Bob and Lucy built their first home in Newport News and moved their growing family to Newtown Square and finally settling in Hamilton, Ma. After retirement, they spent many winters in Bartow, Florida. Throughout his career, Bob worked for several companies, including Boeing, G.E, and ServiceMaster. He retired from his last job as Director of Physical Plant at Gordon-Conwell Seminary in 1991. His interests and passions included flying planes, boating, golfing, and puttering in his workshop fixing things. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Hamilton and the Maritime Camp of the Gideons where he was a church speaker. His greatest love was to tell others about the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Taylor) their children, John and wife, Katharine of Atlanta, Ted and his wife, Susan, of Fort Lauderdale, Jeanne Maurand of Hamilton, Chris Van Dyke and husband, Myke, of Alexandria VA and Susan Sawyer and her husband, Tom, of Kingston NH. Twelve grandchildren, Lauren Taylor, TJ, Andrew, Matthew, Kim, Nathan, Jordan, Rosemarie, Kyle, Richard and Hannah and 9 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Emily Maurand of Hamilton. The funeral will be held at First United Methodist Church of Hamilton 391 Bay Road at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 6. Bobís family will receive visitors prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow the funeral at the Hamilton Cemetery 623 Bay Road. Donations can be made to Gideons International or First United Methodist Church of Hamilton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich.
